Citing a disorderly persons charge against him, the Camden County Republican
Committee wants Camden Freeholder Director Lou
Cappelli to resign and abandon his re-election bid.
Sea Isle City Police issued a disorderly persons summons
to Cappelli on July 28, 2008 for committing simple assault on his wife, a charge
Democrats said was dismissed.
The Sea Isle City Court has no record of the case.
At the PD, Lt. Det. Kirk Roher said "there was temporary
restraining order against the defendant. He was charged with simple assault. He
was fingerprinted. There would have to be a record of dismissal, but there is
none."
The Sea Isle City police report obtained by

after slamming a
door on his wife’s arm.
Camden County GOP Chairman Tom Booth said Sea Isle City failed to turn over all records relating to the incident, forcing Republicans to file an OPRA today seeking all police investigation and arrest reports for Cappelli for the July 28, 2008 incident as well as all other incidents up to the present.
The GOP didn't stop its attack there against the Democrat freeholder director, a member of the Camden County Democratic Organization, citing another public filing, the divorce papers of Cappelli versus his wife, in which Jacqueline Cappelli accused him of forgery, fraud and embezzlement of $200,000.
According to the complaint, Cappelli wrote several checks to himself out of a joint account, and his wife claimed he didn't have that authority.
"This conduct is disgraceful," said Booth. "Earlier this year, it was discovered that Mr. Cappelli owed over $20,000 in delinquent property taxes – the same taxes which he sets as a Freeholder. Given the amount owed, Mr. Cappelli has apparently been ignoring his obligation for quite some time. Sadly, Mr. Cappelli blames his wife – claiming he paid her so she was supposed to pay the taxes.
"Last week it was revealed that a Republican candidate had made offensive and inappropriate remarks regarding women," added Booth, referring to a tweet written by 6th District GOP candidate Phil Mitsch.
Booth wtihdrew organizational support from his own candidate due to what he deemed to be the offensive nature of the tweet.
"Based upon Democrat Cappelli’s anti-women conduct the Camden County Republican Party hereby calls upon the entire Demcratic ticket to condemn these actions and withdraw their support for Mr. Capelli’s continued pursuit of reelection as a Freeholder," Booth said. Booth said. "Moreover, the Camden County Republican party calls for the immediate resignation of Democrat Louis Cappelli from the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
